Winter is coming and unfortunately we will have to give up sunbathing for a while. But let’s see how to get organised for next summer!
To clean your pool could be a frustrating task for many, but not one to be avoided; let’s try to understand how to make it effective and simple with ProduceBlog.

Even if we have to forget about relaxing in the sun for a few months, cleaning the above-ground pool is still a useful and necessary task. Let’s not forget that we want to inflate it as soon as possible, fill it up and start playing. So why get caught unprepared?
To help you with this (brief) task, ProduceShop provides you with a short and simple maintenance guide. So let’s see together how to clean your pool before winter, when it’s closed and before preparing it for summer!

Pre-winter cleaning and emptying
Whether or not a pool should be emptied for the winter depends essentially on the temperatures in your area; if you live in a place that does not fall below 5°C during the winter, you can easily keep the pool assembled and full (and we will see later how to clean it during the winter).
If, on the other hand, it is below 5°C in your area and you are therefore at risk of frostbite, the practice is a little different:
- Clean the surface of the water with a net, removing all impurities.
- remove parts such as ladders, skimmers, filtering pumps and nozzles, clean and wash them carefully, dry them and put them back.
- Empty the pool, taking care to do so in an area where you can dispose of the chlorinated water.
- Clean the inside of the pool with a sponge, warm water and a good, non-aggressive detergent, then rinse carefully.
- dismantle the frame, clean it and dry it for storage.
- Let the liner dry, sprinkle it with talcum powder (to remove moisture and prevent it from sticking), fold it carefully and store it.
- empty the filtration systems to avoid mould, clean the cartridge and, finally, store everything carefully.

Winter cleaning
If you decide instead to keep your pool up and full during the winter (and here the environment and ProduceShop Green thank you), then the instructions change.
First of all, a thorough cleaning of the surface with a net and vacuum cleaner, as well as a careful water cleaning with a robot, also with the help of appropriate cleaning chemicals. After this, with clean water, move on to aggressive chlorination (but always in the recommended quantity), so as to keep the water disinfected, and repeat the cleaning and chlorination operations at least every 40 days. Then, whenever possible, add a winterizing liquid, which also acts as an algaecide.
Finally, place a protective cover over the pool, if possible well secured; in the event of heavy rain or snow, make sure that it has not been damaged and make sure that nothing falls on it so as not to break it. Filters and filtration systems should be disassembled, cleaned, dried and stored carefully to avoid short circuits and damage to the electrical system.

Summer-Spring reopening
When the summer season arrives, all that remains is to prepare our pool.
If it has remained assembled and full, clean the surface with a screen and vacuum, the bottom with the robot, and reconnect the skimmer, ladder and filters.
If you have chosen to dismantle it, reassemble it, fill it and carry out the same operations as above.
In both cases, check the pH of the pool and correct it with the appropriate products. Then, a chlorine shock treatment, so that the water is immediately disinfected and ready to be used (but wait 24 hours!). To this shock treatment, add an anti-algae and flocculant to make sure your above-ground pool is as clean as possible.

Now you no longer have the excuse of the method; cleaning your above ground pool (but also your in-ground pool) will be child’s play. Not only with the ProduceShop guide, but with all our accessories and chemicals you’ll be ready for next summer!
