Since always, we could say, gymnastics has been one of the most significant activities for mankind; the ancient Greeks and Romans stressed the importance of a physical condition being not only beautiful but mostly healthy. Thanks to scientific progress, we now know that training bears more than just aesthetic results; we can observe considerable improvements in the quality of sleep, metabolism, cardio–respiratory rhythms. Moreover, not everyone can follow a strict gym schedule; although it is cheaper and easier nowadays, many people do not have the opportunity to carve out the time they need to attend courses or personal trainers (that we still recommend consulting). Spaces
Let’s first consider where to set our home gym up.
- Many people often own an unused garage. Either since they chose to move in a more ecological way, or because it was included in the price of the house. In any case, we have two choices about its use: messy storage or the perfect home gym. Needless to say we recommend the second example. First of all, make sure the size is adequate: the garages must usually comply with standards of at least 250x500x240 cm, but nothing prevents them from being larger.
- It frequently happens that someone has an unused room in the house: a remote possibility, indeed, but not to be excluded. In this case, one of the best ways to furnish it is to set up a small home gym. By saving the few minutes required to go to the garage, we can pay off by extending our training. Here too, let’s make sure we have, as minimum size, 300x400x300 cm of space, to be able to move and train in absolute freedom and comfort.
Clever tricks
Before launching into the actual setting, let’s make sure of some details not to be ignored.
It is crucial to ensure the correct ventilation of the environment. If there are windows in all rooms at home, it is not always insured in garages. In this case we can make up for with ceiling or wall fans, small ventilation systems, room dehumidifiers.
Second, the environment must be adequately illuminated. Here too, if a room is normally furnished in this regard, in the case of an equipped garage, we might have to change some lamps. Same goes for the flooring; working with weights and barbells, it is always better to cover the surfaces with wood and rubber, or with carpets manufactured for the purpose. In addition, you have to be careful to maintain the right grip, with or without shoes.
Finally, some slight details that provide your home gym a more professional and very personalized look. Mirrors on the walls, motivational posters and photos, emotional quotes that push you to give your best, speakers for music or screens. And a nice water dispenser, which never hurts.

Workout
One last step before starting to choose the tools concerns the workout we are oriented to. On this basis, we would opt for the purchase of specific tools and systems, which perhaps would not be useful if we concentrated only on a few trainings. For example, if I am a swimming enthusiast, what am I going to do with a professional bow and arrow? (Although a shark attack in the pool may be around the corner).

- Crossfit: it is a program that strengthens and conditions the body, to acquire a state of complete well-being; it consists of batteries of continuously varied high-frequency functional movements.
- Calisthenics: quite simply the discipline or training methodology, which involves using your body mass for bodyweight training
- Body Building: the art of sculpting your own physique, involves a series of exercises and disciplines that aim to perfectly define physical shape and strength
- Weight Lifting: divided into subgroups of disciplines according to the objectives, they are all workouts consisting of preparatory exercises for strength and endurance in weightlifting.
Many collect pieces from all over, to enjoy a varied training, perhaps including something from martial arts, yoga and other disciplines. All obviously correlated with proper nutrition and an adequate lifestyle.
